Butch O. Saulon, Assistant to the Head of the Management Control and Information System Office (MCIS) and faculty member of the UNC College of Education, was among the keynote speakers at the First International Symposium on Biology Education on April 4-5, 2015 at ASRI Medical Center, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Saulon discussed the topic “Biodiversity Management in the Philippines”. In his talk, Saulon highlighted the different strategies implemented by the Philippine government and NGOs in biodiversity promotion and conservation.
Other lecturers and researchers were also invited as keynote speakers and tackled different topics. They were: Dr. Yayuk R. Suharjono, Researcher at the Zoology Division of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), “Biodiversity Management in Indonesia”; Dr. Suharsimi Arikunto, Professor, Teacher Training and Science Education Department (FKIP), Ahmad Dahlan University, Indonesia, “Strategies inTeaching Biodiversity Concepts in Schools” and Dr. Sulistiyo, M.Pd., Chairperson, Republic of Indonesia Teacher’s Association (PGRI), “Status and Concerns of Teachers in Indonesia.”
Research abstracts were likewise presented by the students, teachers, and researchers all over Indonesia during the round table discussions and were compiled in an abstract book.
The theme of SYMBION 2015 is “Edubiodiversity: Inspiring Education with Biodiversity”. The international symposium was organized by Universitas Ahmad Dahlan with Irfan Yunianto as Chairman of the Organizing Committee. (BOS)
